From a local response toa national milestone
IIT was created at a time when Sri Lanka needed a practical solution to expand access to higher education in the information age. What began as a pioneering step in ICT learning has evolved into a thriving community of students, academics, and industry partners.

Foundation
IICS, now IIT, was founded by Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe to bring world-class British education to Sri Lanka. The institute began its journey through an early partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University.

Growth & Recognition
The institute grew steadily with 22 students and 6 lecturers, held its first convocation in 1994, and established itself as a pioneer in Sri Lanka's private ICT education sector.

Expansion
IICS became the Informatics Institute of Technology, was registered as a BOI company, and expanded its academic reach through partnerships with Keele University and the introduction of Sri Lanka's first British MSc in IT.

Global Partnership
IIT completed the University of Westminster validation process, giving its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes international recognition and strengthening a long-standing partnership that continues today.
